Madden NFL(tm) '98 Demo
Install
--------------
- Single File Download
If you downloaded the large (20 MB) self-extracting file, simply double-
click on the file icon and then click "Unzip." The default installation
directory is "C:\Program Files\EA Sports\Madden 98 Demo". You may change this
before clicking "Unzip" by typing in the path that you wish to install to.
After the extraction is completed, double click on the file "MAIN.EXE" which
can be found in the \EXE folder of your install.
(ex. C:\Program Files\EA Sports\Madden 98 Demo\EXE\MAIN.EXE) You may create a
shortcut on your desktop by right-clicking and dragging that same file to your
desktop, release the button and select "Create Shortcut Here."
- Multiple File Download
If you downloaded the 4 (5 Mb each) smaller self-extracting files, simply
double click on the first one (MADDEN1.ZIP), and then click "Unzip." The
default installating directory is "C:\Program Files\EA Sports\Madden 98 Demo".
You may change this before clicking "Unzip" by typing in the path that you
wish to install to. Once the first file is finished extracting, it will run
the second file (MADDEN2.ZIP), and you should repeat the previous
instructions. Repeat this process for the rest of the files.
Note: All of the self-extracting files need to be in the same location
before starting this extraction.
After the extraction is completed, you can run the demo by double-clicking
on the file "MAIN.EXE" which can be found in the \EXE folder of your install.
(ex. C:\Program Files\EA Sports\Madden 98 Demo\EXE\MAIN.EXE) You may create a
shortcut on your desktop by right-clicking and dragging that same file to your
desktop, release the button and select "Create Shortcut Here."
Compatibility Issues
---------------------
Some display drivers have problems dealing with the mode switching used
in the game. If your menu screens look fine, but the game itself has
strange colors or only appears on part of the screen, then you'll need
to update your card's driver or manually switch to 256 color resolution
( 8 bit ).
The game will temporarily disable any windows screen saver utilities, but
has some problems with third-party ones. We recommend if you're using a
joystick or gamepad that you manually disable any third-party screen
saver utilities on your system.

Additional Gameplay Commands
----------------------------
- 2 Player Bluff mode -
This is a feature we have added for 2 player (one computer) games that will
enable you to call plays that that are not actually highlighted. This feature
will prevent your opponent from finding out what play you have called by
watching your play call window.
In the 2 player play call window, there are play names listed above and below
the center play diagram, listed on tabs. You may select the play in the middle
(the play diagram) by selecting button 1, 2, or 3. You may also select one of
the plays listed on the tabs above and below the play diagrams. To access
plays above the play diagrams, press left on the D-Pad (joystick) and select
the according letter (button 1, 2, or 3). To access the plays below the play
diagrams, press right on the D-Pad (joystick) and select the according letter
(button 1, 2, or 3).
- Flipping Plays -
Most of the plays in the playbook are capabable of being flipped (with the
exception of Goalline and Special Teams plays). To do this, press and hold
button 4 for a second or more. The plays will flip (strong side will flip,
as will routes). Call play as normal by selecting button 1, 2, or 3.
- Timing Route Passing -
On any pass play, you may enable a quick pass mode. This brings up the
receiver numbers upon hiking the ball (rather than having to bring up the
numbers manually by pressing the 2 button a second time). This will enable
you to pass the ball as quickly as possible, usefull in WR screen patterns and
quick routes that run underneath the coverage.
To enable Timing Route Passing:
Before the snap tap button 4. You will hear a "Bong" sound that signifies
the activation of this mode. You may now snap the ball (hold and release
button 2), and receiver numbers will be available immediately.
This also can be used on running plays to bluff (as they will hear
the "Bong").
